You may have a moisturizer that works fine for summer and spring months. However, as winter sets in and weather conditions change, so should your skin care routine too. Rather than just using a water-based ointment, you should focus on using an oil-based moisturizer. This is because oil creates a protective layer on the skin, thereby retaining more moisture. However, be cautions when choosing your oil because not all of them are appropriate for the face.

Put on some sunscreen:
Sunscreen is not meant just for the hot summer months. Due to snow glare, winter can still damage your skin. In this regard, you should make it a routine to apply sunscreen to your face and hands if they are also exposed, approximately thirty minutes before going outside. You may consider reapplying frequently if you contemplate staying outside for far too long.

Give peels a wide berth:
If your facial skin is way too dry, you should consider avoiding harsh peels, alcohol-based toners, masks or astringents. This is because these products strip your skin of important nutrients, making it dry and unhealthy. Instead, you should consider using mild foaming cleansers, a cleansing milk or a toner that has no alcohol content. However, it is important using them less often.

Avoid super-hot baths:
Taking a prolonged super-hot bath could be very tempting in winter. However, without knowing it, this could be doing more harm than good to your skin this winter. This is because intense heat breaks down the lipid barriers found in skin, which eventually leads to loss of moisture. Using warm water is just fine if the urge of soaking after frolicking in the cold feels too tempting.

Use lip soothers:
The winter wind is notorious for causing dry, sore and cracked lips. However, as much as possible, you should resist the urge to scrap away the peeling bits because unlike skin, these flakes are not dead cells. So what is the remedy? Well, all you need is to invest in some quality lip treatment cream that contains vitamin A to prevent the build-up of dry lips. Whether indoors or outdoors, you should keep your lips well moisturized all day long.
